I bought this about two years ago and have been keeping it ever since.
From the 80s Italian brand, Best Company.
It’s just too cool.
The fabric is incredible; it's a thick, supple, double-faced sweat fabric...
The fabric is simply amazing, and it has the weight of an outer layer. It’s almost excessively well-made. Haha.
Everything about the design is over-the-top in the best way possible.
Best Company was a brand that existed for 10 years between the 80s and 90s, alongside C.P. Company and Stone Island, and is representative of the Paninaro style. Paninaro was a style that symbolized the fashion of wealthy youth in Milan at the time—it was their interpretation of American casual.
Given that background, this piece is particularly surprising, especially for a sweatshirt—an iconic item for Best Company at the time.
I still see the pullover type relatively often, but this is the first time I've come across the cardigan style.
Italian goods from that era are truly interesting. Personally, I love how "Italian" it feels—that sense of being a bit extra or greedy.
As an aside, I heard there was an agency in Japan for the brand back then, but it apparently wasn't popular at all. Haha.
So, because of that, I think it’s still a surprisingly unknown brand, mainly because C.P. Company and Stone Island are such huge presences. Haha.
However, we actually visit Italy from time to time, and it is truly loved there. The younger generation still has a strong affinity for the Paninaro or American casual culture, and while you see it occasionally, it’s really cool.
This is exceptionally rare and something you really don't see; given the quality and design, it would be difficult to source again, so I’ve set the price accordingly.
