A German antique blouse. Since the last one sold out instantly, I made sure to prepare another one right away.
I met a lovely dealer couple in Germany the other day and bought it from them.
The wife was very knowledgeable and taught me a lot; apparently, this piece is from the 1920s. It is truly remarkable to find something from 100 years ago in such excellent condition.
The cutwork lace adorning the collar and sleeves is, of course, entirely handmade.
I love that the shallow V-neck design allows you to showcase necklaces or scarves in the coming season.
The frills on the front placket conceal a button closure, making this a delightful shirt-jacket that can also be worn as an outer layer.
The Dorset buttons are also truly wonderful. The skills of the seamstresses back then were absolutely off the charts.
There is red embroidery on the hem that says "M.K 9." I can't help but get excited about red embroidery on old cotton. (lol)
I also recommend pairing it with items from completely different genres, like a band tee or denim.
When people think of antique lace blouses, they usually think of France,
but the appeal of this German blouse is that the cotton fabric is sturdy and perfect for wearing.
Generally, blouses from this era are so old that the fabric has weakened, making them prone to tearing, impossible to wash, and quite difficult to handle.
I own many blouses that I used to wear a few years ago but can no longer wear.
That is why I think this blouse is truly exceptional—to be antique yet in such great condition with such durable fabric.
The cutwork lace, which is not as delicate as tulle, can be machine washed normally; in fact, the fabric is tough enough that you could even bleach it if it got dirty.
Also, the body is made of a rare cotton fabric with a pattern woven directly into the textile. It’s not thin or flimsy, but a shirt fabric with a nice, substantial thickness.
While there are many recent items from the 80s and 90s that recreate antique blouses, they just can't compete with the texture of the real thing.
