1960s Deutsches Hygiene-Museum Dresden anatomical chart

This item was on display at the Deutsches Hygiene-Museum in Dresden, East Germany.

The museum focuses on themes related to hygiene, health, the human body, and society. Founded in 1909, it initially centered on exhibitions about hygiene and preventive medicine, and over time, it expanded its scope to include health and medicine as well.

This piece dates back to the 1960s, a time when the museum provided educational exhibits on the structure and function of the human body, offering information to deepen the understanding of how the body works.

Furthermore, there were many interactive elements to help general visitors learn about their own health, and it seems there were also participatory educational programs specifically for children and families.

We received five other items today, which are what you might call scroll-type wall charts that were actually used in educational settings.

The paper is mounted onto a linen backing to withstand frequent use,

and although there is some minor aging, there are no tears, and it is in good condition.

I was able to acquire these in a bulk purchase from a dealer I know.

This one is an anatomy chart, and we received one other anatomy chart today as well.

It features hand-drawn illustrations rather than photographs, a hallmark of this era.

I am drawn to the brushwork and color choices, which give off a certain mid-century vibe.

We love them ourselves and have them displayed in our home. Since you only need a single hook on the wall to hang them,

there’s no need for heavy-duty work like using a power drill or hammering in nails, which makes it easy to install, and

another great point is that you can just roll them up for storage, taking up very little space.

While I would love to handle art in standard frames, I always worry about the logistics of shipping;

ever since one arrived completely shattered in the past, I haven't been able to offer them. (Haha)
