1960s French military alpine smock

This is actually my first time getting these in stock. They are French military mountain smocks from back in the day.

They look so cool, don't they? The fabric is cotton.

It’s a fantastic fabric—crisp yet soft and easy to wear.

It has a loose, oversized fit, but it feels great—not unpleasantly large at all.

You can cinch both the waist and the hem, so there’s plenty of room to style it. Personally, I like wearing it with the waist pulled in a bit.

Also, while it’s not damage, there is some patchy black staining throughout, which actually looks really cool—it’s like a faint, unintentional camouflage pattern. I’ve already hand-washed it once and then cleaned it in the washing machine.

The large hood is very practical, too. It’s perfect for everyday wear, but I think it’s also quite stylish to throw it on as your top layer on a rainy day. The four front pockets have plenty of capacity, so you can head out without needing a bag.

It’s unlined and made from a single layer of fabric, so you don’t have to worry about what you’re wearing underneath. That’s a pretty important detail.

I put it on for the first time in six or seven years, and my gut reaction was just, "Wow, this is cool." Haha.

I like pieces with a bit of character more than pristine vintage items because you tend to grow a different kind of attachment to them.

It’s quintessential French military gear, but I really wanted to shine a spotlight on it again.

At the end of the day, it’s all about how you wear it and how you style it. Please enjoy it however you like. Highly recommended.
