creates a stunning, sculptural archival piece born from a designer who is a sculptor rather than just a jewelry artist.
Uno a Erre is actually the first manufacturer registered in the city of Arezzo, a famous center for Italian silver production.
That is why it is marked "1AR" (under Italian government regulations, the number indicates the order of registration, and "AR" indicates the province, etc.), which is said to be the origin of the brand's name.
On a personal note, when I first started getting into silver jewelry, I looked up the hallmarks on a piece I had bought without knowing anything, which led me to discover the meaning of "AR"—it is a place I have wanted to visit ever since.
Silver remains a vital industry that supports the economy of Arezzo to this day,
and Uno a Erre is a great jewelry manufacturer that has been laying that foundation since the 1920s.
Arezzo also houses a museum founded by the company, which reportedly exhibits archives of prominent Italian artists, including Salvador Dalí. I am so curious! I will definitely go someday.
Although they still manufacture jewelry today, their most unique pieces are from this 1960s-1970s period.
