1960s VWV school chart of atomic nuclei

A publishing house that produced almost all textbooks, teaching materials, and educational journals in the former East Germany.

A 1960s school chart from Volk und Wissen Verlag, commonly known as VWV.

It is a roll-style wall-hanging educational tool that was actually used in classrooms.

The paper is mounted on a linen backing to withstand repeated use, and although there is some minor aging, there are no tears, and it is in good condition.

We were able to acquire a collection of these from a dealer we know.

This particular piece appears to be a teaching tool for "Atomkerne," or atomic nuclei, represented through illustrations and symbols.

It features hand-drawn illustrations rather than photographs, a hallmark of the era.

We are drawn to the brushwork and color choices, which evoke a certain mid-century atmosphere.

The sense of utilitarianism and minimalism—qualities inherent to educational materials—offer a unique charm distinct from art.

We love them and have one displayed in our own home. Since it can be hung with just a single hook on the wall,

it's easy to set up without the need for power tools, hammers, or nails, and it’s convenient to store since it just rolls up.

We have avoided stocking framed art because of shipping concerns; after having one arrive completely shattered in the past, we haven't been able to offer them since! (Laughs)

This is a fantastic art piece that is the only kind that can travel across borders without any worry of breaking.

They are highly regarded in Europe and North America for their design quality, often fetching prices of 150€ or more.
