A piece I picked up during my buying trip to Paris last weekend.
It’s become really difficult to find old, crisp French short-sleeved shirts like this, so I’m genuinely happy to have it.
I bought this directly from a friend and dealer at his home.
It’s from a brand called PABAT, likely from the 1950s, and I believe it’s workwear. The condition is deadstock.
The indigo-dyed fabric is either cotton or a cotton-linen blend. I suspect it’s a linen blend.
Regardless, it’s a wonderful fabric—durable yet not too thick.
Since it’s deadstock, it has a crisp feel right now, but please rest assured that it will soften up as you wear and wash it over time.
Also, regarding the indigo dye, there is a paper tag under the brand label that apparently says in French that it is colorfast; my friend explained it all to me.
That said, because it is in deadstock condition, it’s probably better to wash it by itself the first time, or with other items that are unlikely to be affected by color bleeding.

There’s just something different about French workwear compared to others—a certain aura, I suppose. Especially this blue.
It truly is beautiful; I think that every time I go to France for buying trips.
I honestly recommend this short-sleeved shirt. The fact that it can be styled with anything is another great point; the overall impression changes completely depending on what kind of trousers you pair it with.
I want it for myself. Haha.
