1950s German Black Tailored Jacket

A vintage black tailored jacket.

From Germany, circa the 1950s.

The standout features are its sizing and silhouette. The material is also impeccable.

It’s a high-quality vintage wool, not too thick. It’s a suit-weight wool that can be worn any time of year except summer.

Even though it’s a piece of clothing and fabric from a long time ago, it’s still going strong. Everything old just has a quality that’s in a different league.

It’s truly completely different from what is being produced today.

Whenever I visit my parents' house, my mom washes my casual clothes for me, and she often casually says, "Old clothes really are such good quality, aren't they?" Haha.

"Right?" I say. Haha.

Anyway, getting off track, I really love using a single tailored jacket as everyday wear.

Isn't it just simply cool? I’ve loved it for a long time, and given that I used to work in formalwear, I not only love this style, but I'm also good at styling it.

Rather than pairing it with dress slacks, I think it’s better to pair it with casual pants like these, wear your favorite go-to T-shirt underneath, and finish with sneakers. Of course, it looks great with leather shoes, too. But my proposal as TOTO is to dress it down as much as possible.

I’ve prepared two styling photos this time; layering a jersey jacket underneath also looks cool, for a sportier feel.

Back when I worked at a vintage shop in Osaka, customers often told me that tailored jackets are hard to style, but they’re super easy. Just throw it on. Haha.
