60s Bay Keramik fat lava object or vase / W-Germany

Fat Lava by Bay Keramik.

Fat Lava generally refers to German vases, and

it seems the name comes from "fat" meaning thick and "lava" meaning glaze—essentially, thick glaze.

They are characterized by a lava-like glaze texture.

The history of Bay Keramik is fascinating; it was founded in 1933 in Ransbach, a town in Germany famous for its pottery industry.

At that time, they primarily produced tableware, but it seems they started selling decorative items like vases in the 1950s, following World War II.

I find the history of such companies so interesting. haha

It appears that Bay Keramik stopped producing pottery in 1971, so we can conclude that this piece

dates from before that time.

A person named Bodo Mans appears to have been their designer at the time, producing nothing but wonderful designs,

and upon further research, it seems he was one of the most active designers of that era.

I learned so much I didn't know before.

The "Bay" mark on the bottom indicates Bay Keramik, while the numbers represent the model number and the size in centimeters. "W-Germany" denotes West Germany!

Pottery from this era was produced in various places like West Germany, East Germany (VEB), the Czech Republic, and Hungary by many different artists, so it's said that many of the specific details remain unknown.

The Bay Keramik sticker can be removed, so feel free to peel it off if you prefer!

Either way is fine!
