1960s Czechoslovakia ash tray by Ditmar Urbach

An antique ceramic ashtray from Czechoslovakia.

It was produced in the 1960s by Ditmar Urbach (which went through several name changes), a historic European pottery studio founded as early as 1880.

With a white base, it features a very simple design with a thick, drippy glaze in the center.

If you look closely, the edges of the glaze are tinged with a subtle green—very cool.

While much of their pottery tends to be cute, country-style tableware for the home,

this kind of solid, mid-century style piece is quite rare.

It’s been a while since I’ve introduced an item in the ash tray category, so I decided to explore a new genre for us.

I acquired this from a friend who collects wonderful Czech goods.

Many of the glass items and knick-knacks I've offered at TOTO so far have also come from her;

she always has really great pieces. She never gives me a discount, though. Haha.
