A classical wool balmacaan coat from 1960s Czechoslovakia.
It features a long-pile black and white mix,
with a wonderfully shaggy, textured finish.
The tag only shows the name of a small town in eastern Czech Republic,
and being a very old bespoke piece, it lacks material labels,
but the texture feels remarkably like mohair.
I get the sense that fibers longer than standard wool are mixed in,
and as it is made of compressed wool about 2cm thick,
it is a very warm winter coat.
The lining is a glossy rayon typical of this era.
It’s a sophisticated silver-gray that looks great even if it peeks out.
Due to Czechoslovakia's long socialist era and its history of being occupied,
good vintage clothing from the country is very hard to come by.
I was able to acquire this from my usual stylish grandmother in the Czech countryside.
Wool coats are such a common style that it’s hard to find one that truly satisfies.
However, with its shape, silhouette, and incredible fabric,
I knew I had finally found "the one"!
This is a highly recommended piece of outerwear that you can wear for a long time to come.
