A 1970s Austrian ski top for ladies.
Made from a thick, durable spun rayon winter sports fabric, it features an asymmetrical snap-button and zip closure extending from the ribbed knit collar.
I believe this design was intended to make it easy to take on and off, but it’s just exceptionally cool.
The zipper opens from the bottom, so it also looks great worn open.
In any case, the quality of the fabric and the brilliance of the design are one-of-a-kind. This is truly the best of European vintage clothing.
In Europe, a major ski boom arrived following the 1936 Winter Olympics in Germany, leading to the production of numerous outdoor garments.
Helenca, a German textile manufacturer, gained immense support during that time.
Their materials were frequently used in sports and leisure wear from the 50s to the 70s.
However, they are mostly seen in pants or jerseys, and this is the first time I've come across a top with such a unique design.
This fabric is incredibly tough; not only is it sturdy, but it also has a soft feel and a smooth, luxurious look—it’s a truly magnificent rayon blend.
The fact that it remains in such pristine condition after 50 years really speaks to its high quality.
Although it is a women's piece, it is a size XL, so I also recommend it for men.
