A handmade rug from the 70s.

Psychedelic and futuristic funk art.

I can't get enough of the color palette. Because of the wiggly, abstract design,

it’s possible that the creator designed the pattern from scratch rather than using a commercially sold rug kit.

It is wall art, but I love latch hook rugs because their 3D texture sets them apart from ordinary paintings.

The pieces I’ve collected this time were made using a technique called latch hooking, which dates back to the early 19th century when kits for weaving high-quality rugs at home first became available.

Between the 30s and 60s, because fine rugs were expensive, the practice developed both out of a need to weave one's own and as a popular hobby for the home.

It gradually became less common as entertainment diversified and carpets became cheaply available through mass production in China and stores like IKEA.

However, pieces from the mid-century era of the 60s and 70s are characterized by psychedelic and futuristic funk art.

By the 80s, the culture shifted away from floor rugs toward wall hangings featuring animals or character designs.

This piece is made of high-quality wool with a substantial thickness and a long pile,

and has an explosive quality that makes the design seem to pop right off the wall. It’s superb.

Since the edge of the back is finished with thick cotton thread, you can hang it on a wall by passing thin nails or screws through it.
