80s square rug tapestry

Handmade mini rug from the 80s.

Although it is wall art, I love the latch hook style for its unique 3D surface that sets it apart from a regular painting.

The items I have collected this time were made using a technique called latch hooking, which dates back to the early 19th century when kits for weaving high-quality home rugs were first distributed.

From the 1930s to the 1960s, these kits developed as a popular home hobby, serving the purpose of creating high-quality rugs that were otherwise too expensive to buy.

Gradually, as leisure activities increased and carpets became cheaply available through mass production in China and retailers like IKEA, the practice became less common.

The items from the mid-century era, spanning the 60s and 70s, are characterized by psychedelic and futuristic funk art.

By the 1980s, the culture shifted from creating floor rugs to making wall hangings featuring animals, characters, and other designs.

This piece was also made during the 80s and is crafted from an acrylic material, making it very lightweight.

It features a sewn-on hook for wall hanging, allowing you to display it as either a square or a diamond shape.

It is also recommended to use as a base for houseplants.
