A travel coat from 1980s West Germany.
Looking closely at this beige stand-collar coat that commands good posture,
you’ll find large snap-button pockets on the sides that wrap all the way around,
an unusual zip pocket near the collarbone, a pleated back, work-jacket-style cuffs, a double zip with a snap-button placket, and so much more—the more I look, the more I find myself thinking,
"Wait a minute, this is actually incredibly cool," and slowly fell in love with it. Haha.
The fact that it looks chic and plain at a glance but is actually packed with interesting details
is something I’ve grown to love in a slightly twisted way. For clothes and people alike, having a little quirk is just right. (?)
Anyway, it looks ordinary but is anything but, and the same goes for the material;
it’s crafted from high-quality, high-density, and firm cotton-poly fabric by Diolen.
I hope you can get a sense of the crisp texture of the fabric from the coat on the mannequin.
It’s a tough fabric with enough thickness that it would likely repel light rain,
and I’ve often seen Diolen used in high-end sports gear, coats, and jackets from Italy and Germany in the 80s.
The cotton-poly blend ratio varies by piece, which changes the feel of the fabric, but
this one has a truly elegant textile quality with a natural, shadowed depth.
You just don't get this effect with 100% cotton or nylon-cotton.
I think it’s perfect as a spring coat for Japan, from April until summer arrives.
Such a great coat. I’ll likely be wearing this on heavy rotation with a T-shirt and denim.
