An 80s Yves Saint Laurent wool shirt jacket.
It is much lighter in weight than you would imagine for wool,
yet the wool is tightly woven and very warm,
offering both thermal protection and a lightweight, comfortable feel.
The combination of the deep navy, almost black, and the eye-catching white collar has a sailor-like freshness and elegance,
while the button placement and loose boxy silhouette hint at workwear influences.
This piece is from the "Variation" line introduced in 1983,
which, according to one theory, was inspired by the look of "wealthy peasants."
Another highlight is the beautiful form of the sleeves.
I am truly impressed by the three-dimensional shape created by the wide gathers at the shoulders and the tapered cuffs.
It is even more impressive when worn than it looks.
The angled chest pocket is a nice, intricate touch.
There are various subtle quirks within its simplicity; I can only say it is masterful.
Despite being about 40 years old, it is in excellent condition.
Even setting aside the brand name, this is a garment I wholeheartedly recommend.
