A rare Edwardian cotton nightie.
This was commonly worn as a chemise, serving as both sleepwear and an undergarment.
A sleeveless cami-dress in a light shirting fabric,
what makes it unique is the use of piqué, which creates a textured, raised effect around the stomach area.
It seems this was designed to puff out underneath a corset, helping to create a beautiful silhouette for the dress worn over it.
Furthermore, the piqué material is brushed on the inside and thicker, which of course also served to keep the stomach warm;
I adore how it reflects the culture and mindset of that particular era.
