An antique Turkish rug from around the 1930s.
The color scheme is just too cool. I believe this size with a black base is quite rare.
This rug belongs to a category called "yastik," which apparently means "pillow" in Turkish.
To provide a bit of history, it seems that in old Turkish homes, both the floors and walls were bare.
To keep their bodies from getting cold, people would lay out bedding on top of rugs and line these yastiks along the walls.
You could call it the wisdom of our ancestors—it’s truly amazing. Haha.
There is also a theory that they were given as gifts to newlyweds.
The sentiment being: "May you grow old together with this pillow." How lovely is that?
It is a truly cool rug, so I highly recommend it.
