A rare silver and gold bracelet from the 1970s by the French maker CHRISTOFLE.
A luxurious piece of jewelry featuring a braided "chevron" silver design,
with 18k gold used for the rope sections.
The hidden clasp, which is invisible from the front, is nothing short of brilliant.
The braided design possesses great depth and dimension,
and while the silver’s natural patina developed over many years gives it a bold presence,
it also carries a delicate atmosphere created by its exquisite craftsmanship.
This piece is from a 70s collection featuring the CHRISTOFLE signature in block letters rather than cursive. Incidentally, it seems a necklace version was also produced.
The French metalware manufacturer CHRISTOFLE was founded way back in 1830.
The founder, Charles Christofle, who was born into a family of jewelers, began what was then groundbreaking precious metal manufacturing,
and was commissioned to produce gold and silver items, including tableware for royalty and emperors.
Honestly, I first learned about Christofle through this bracelet,
but it is a manufacturer with such deep history that it even has multiple sections dedicated to it on Wikipedia.
It actually made me chuckle to learn that from its inception, their clients included not only French royalty,
but also the emperors of Mexico, Russia, and Germany, as well as the Ottoman Empire.
It’s truly beyond my imagination. Haha.
In any case, CHRISTOFLE, which has endured from such long ago to this day,
like Georg Jensen, mainly produces silver tableware,
which is also truly wonderful and I hope you will take a look at it as well,
but their jewelry in particular was never mass-produced and is extremely valuable.
