A polyester textile dress from the 60s-70s.
It was designed by Ken Scott, a renowned textile designer often referred to as the "gardener of fashion."
I was absolutely struck by this stunning black-based textile!
The patterns, created with a sensibility unique to Mr. Scott, are beyond what any words in my vocabulary can describe.
The tag had been cut off, so I didn't know the designer at first, but while shooting, I noticed his signature and learned about Mr. Scott.
He was a great American designer in a fashion history filled with unique episodes.
Originally a painter, he began designing fabrics one day and was most active during the 1960s and 70s.
He printed his designs on the newly developed synthetic fibers of that time,
inventing easy-to-care-for fashion that was machine-washable, quick-drying, and wrinkle-free, making it perfect for packing in a suitcase. His target setting was remarkably clear—he knew exactly who would wear his clothes and in what situations! (laughs)
Also, to balance out his powerful prints, he reportedly preferred simple, linear silhouettes for the garments themselves.
Knowing these stories really touched me, as this dress seems to embody Mr. Scott's vision perfectly.
Beyond the textile, this dress is flawless. Although it looks like a tight fit, it is extremely comfortable to wear, and above all, the silhouette is truly beautiful.
It doesn't feel tight around the armpits. The stand-up collar also stays crisp and doesn't sag.
As mentioned, it's made of a cool polyester fabric that dries quickly and is wrinkle-resistant.
I highly recommend it for occasions like weddings in the coming season.
