A beautiful vintage French leather cape.
The hook design on the front is so quintessentially French.
It has an elegant, jewelry-like quality inspired by equestrian gear.
The brown suede leather, which matches it perfectly, is
a lovely, lightweight, and supple hide. The suede is neither too heavy nor too thin, with minimal nap and a smooth surface.
It is roughly a women’s size M, with enough room to wear a sweater underneath when it gets cold.
The hood is detachable. I'm happy it has remained in such good condition.
The tailoring around the shoulders is wonderful, creating a silhouette that doesn't look stiff but drapes beautifully.
Although there is no tag, it is a nameless handmade piece from France, and based on the leather, parts, and stitching, I would estimate it to be from the 1970s.
If it were large enough to fit men, it would be a different story,
but it has a compact construction typical of vintage petite French women's sizes, hence this price.
It would also make a fantastic gift.
