A wonderful vintage piece from Germany with fine kilim patterns and colors.
This is a machine-woven rug, not a hand-woven wool rug.
I use a similar machine-woven rug in my own home;
instead of the coarse, dry texture of kilims or other wool,
it features a smooth wool weave that is soft to the touch.
The fabric is thin with a characteristic flat, sleek feel,
making it lighter and easier to handle than kilims or Persian rugs.
As it is a sturdy machine-woven piece, it is plenty durable.
Also, I believe these intricate patterns spread across the entire surface are a technique unique to machine weaving.
It is difficult to pinpoint the exact age, but machine weaving was already thriving in Europe by the 60s,
and given the neon accents and the feel of the fabric, I estimate it is from around the 80s.
I have priced it affordably because it is not ancient and is machine-made,
but this rug is simply a great bargain at this size, including shipping.
