60-70s Hungarian ceramic object / vase

60s-70s Hungarian pottery.

This is one of the vases I fell in love with at a market in Budapest.

It features a powerful color scheme with a base of orange-yellow, layered with two shades of deep khaki glaze.

More than just a flower vase,

I am overwhelmed by its strong presence as an object in its own right.

It is truly an art object that commands attention even when simply placed on a shelf.

While it is in the mid-century style of pottery known as "Fat Lava,"

which was produced in Germany during the same 60s-70s period,

the shop owner told me it is likely the work of an unknown Hungarian artist.

It seems that many high-quality, wonderful pieces of pottery were being made in Hungary during that time as well.

The colors are somehow more vibrant than the German pieces,

reflecting Hungary's traditional colorful aesthetic.

(At the same market, I saw 100-year-old Hungarian embroidered dresses that were also incredibly colorful.)

Information like the country, era, or maker might be important, but

at the end of the day, I think the feeling of "This is great!" is what matters most.

We didn't have any specific reasons for choosing these pieces; we simply

picked the vases that both of us felt were just "great!" haha

Whether it's "This is great! I want to display this! This would look good in my room! I've been looking for something in this color!"—
