A pop and kitschy design heavily inspired by the Space Age. I love it!
It’s hard to put into words why I love it, but Marion Godart is just wonderful, with a unique pop style that feels like a blend of Art Deco and Mid-Century Modern. These are precious vintage items that reflect the era; even the legendary Twiggy wore them on the cover of VOGUE.
I acquired this from a lovely lady I met in Paris recently. This is my first time stocking these pieces.
The lady, who has worked in the jewelry industry for a long time and now rents and sells jewelry to stylists and celebrities, told me:
Marion Godart was founded by sisters Marion and Martine, with Martine pouring her passion into jewelry design since the 70s.
Although it was founded in 1988, as you can see, the style is Mid-Century Space Age from the mid-60s to the 70s. It seems the dynamic was Martine's sense of style combined with Marion's skill in promoting the brand, getting it featured in magazines and worn by models.
Marion Godart has produced many other iconic pieces, but what I especially love this time is this chic Black & White design. It matches any outfit and any occasion.
Unlike modern plastics, the vintage resin material has a wonderful, indescribable matte texture.
Also, this piece uses a different resin than the floral version; it is made from Rhodoid, a material from a French celluloid company, giving it more heft, weight, and a luxurious feel.
If you look closely, the slightly blurred boundary between the black and white is a unique characteristic of vintage celluloid.
The parts are strung on elastic that was professionally restored by the lady, so it is sturdy, not worn out, and stretches significantly.
