It’s so cool and cute—truly a quintessential Girbaud piece, brimming with the mood of the early 2000s.
First, about the material: it is filled with incredibly warm down and feathers.
It uses eiderdown, a special type of waterfowl plumage considered the finest quality of down available.
The Eider duck, which inhabits the northernmost parts of Iceland, produces rare feathers
known for being exceptionally warm even in small amounts. Apparently, it is also used in high-end luxury duvets.
With this blend of eiderdown and feathers, the coat is thin and lightweight, yet genuinely warm.
It was fairly cold in the room where I was shooting, but I actually started sweating while taking the photos.
The shell is black nylon, giving it that urban, tech-forward aesthetic typical of Girbaud.
The design is packed with details that evoke the brand’s early 2000s era.
First, the silhouette has a unique shape that flares out from the waist like a skirt.
At first glance, I wasn't sure about it, but once I put it on, I fell in love with how cute it looked.
It's not your typical, frumpy down jacket with a cinched waist (pardon the expression); it’s Girbaud through and through.
Other details include straps along the arm lines, double-layered waist pockets, a double zipper, a stowable hood, and a two-way collar lined with velour.

One mystery: it features a Hugo Boss zipper. Haha.
My guess is that this was a factory error during production, likely at a facility that was also manufacturing for Hugo Boss.

This is a piece that reminded me once again how much I really love Girbaud.
While it’s not an antique, this is a rare down item precisely because of how I found it, and I highly recommend it.
