An iconic nylon jacket from the 1994-1995 FW Prada collection.
This is the Pocono nylon that came to symbolize Prada in the 90s.
Originally developed for military and industrial use by Limonta, this nylon is incredibly durable;
as you can see, it still shines brilliantly even after some 30 years.
I believe it was a truly magnificent achievement by Miuccia Prada, the designer at the time, to elevate nylon into a luxury material.
Much like the work of the revered Massimo Osti during the same period, I find the spirit of exploration—focusing on a minimalism that stripped away all excess decoration and prioritizing high utility and functionality—to be truly remarkable.
The Urban Protection series, which emerged around the same mid-90s era, shares this same spirit, and I have nothing but the utmost respect for Italian creation during this time.
This item in particular, at first glance, is quite simple—essentially just a hooded zip jacket—
yet it radiates an undeniable sense of luxury. It’s truly mysterious. Haha. I’ve fallen under the Prada spell.
I feel this piece perfectly encapsulates Miuccia’s philosophy of being understated yet luxurious.
The nylon shell jacket comes with a rayon-acetate liner featuring thin padding,
so you can remove the liner to wear it as a light outer layer in the spring and autumn.
The photos showing the garment being worn, both by a man and a woman, were taken with the liner attached.
While labeled a size L, it has a very roomy cut that easily fits like an XL,
allowing you to layer everything from thick knits to thin cut-and-sew tops underneath, depending on the season.
Regarding the specific date, I am certain it is from the 1994 or 1995 FW collection.
While Pocono nylon first appeared in the Prada Vela backpack, it became a central focus for Prada apparel starting with the 1994 FW collection.
Based on the use of identical zippers and buttons, the appearance of minimalist brown nylon during that time, and the quality tags, I estimate it to be from this era.
As it is a piece from an era when archives are increasingly difficult to obtain, this is a special item packed with the history and aesthetic of Prada. It still has plenty of life left for you to enjoy for many years to come!
