A rare silver pendant choker from the PLUS studio in Norway.
The designer is Erling Christoffersen, an elite artisan who studied goldsmithing in Oslo and trained at Georg Jensen.
He served as the head of PLUS, a design collective established in Fredrikstad, Norway, in 1958.
To call this a quintessential beautiful piece of Scandinavian modernism might be a broad generalization, but it is a beautiful pendant necklace that truly distills that spirit; I have cherished it for a long time, and I am introducing it now because Norway was so wonderful at the World Cup (lol).
The Viking chant "HUH!!!" left such a strong impression during this World Cup,
and I feel that the Viking philosophy and spirit are reflected in this piece—I definitely arrived at that conclusion thanks to those Vikings.
The sculptural pendant top looks like the oars extending from the side of a longship, or perhaps a horned helmet.
It is genuinely enjoyable to feel this kind of background, rather than just lumping it all together as simple Scandinavian modernism.
Furthermore, the choker features a subtle hammered texture that softly reflects light, drawing me in even more with its intricate craftsmanship.
Although introduced in the 60s, this particular piece may have been released in the 70s. It is a rare and precious piece from the PLUS studio, which was active for only 20 years, from 1958 to 1978.
It will be sent in its original box, which I acquired from a jeweler in Berlin.
