This was such a wonderful discovery.
I found it hanging in a vintage shop in Naples.
A Thierry Mugler faux fur jacket, from the 1985/86 Fall/Winter collection.
I remember being so surprised at the time, thinking, "Does Mugler even have stuff this colorful?!"
It was an archival haute couture piece that actually walked the runway.

It’s a multi-colored cropped jacket in fluffy acrylic fur.
While this pop pattern seems to exist in yellow and green versions, this is the gray-based one.
It features three fabric-covered buttons on the front (the pattern matching is mind-blowing) and pockets on both sides.
The lining of the large collar is a vibrant green leather (!). How can every single detail be this perfect?
You can enjoy wearing it with the collar up to block the cold, or just popping the back part up.
The fur is very thick and keeps the wind out. It’s not stiff at all, and it’s soft to wear with no signs of aging.
The lining is made of lustrous satin, with absolutely no scratches or tears.
Thierry Mugler of France is a designer I’ve loved ever since I encountered his 80s pieces at a wonderful shop.
It’s a fond memory of mine that once I tried it on, I couldn’t take it off, and I ended up splurging on it. It’s still the star of my closet.
From there, I got interested and watched his old shows; they were incredibly beautiful and utterly powerful.
Watching women clad in power-shoulder suits and dresses, with sometimes over-the-top staging, is truly top-tier entertainment.
By the way, he even did his own photography, capturing impossibly grand advertisements—like shots from so far away that you can barely see the model lounging on what looks like a snowy, Arctic cliffside. His expression as a photographer is just as unique and well worth a look.
While this jacket upends that glamorous image, this pop style is actually a personal favorite of mine.
As expected, it’s truly wonderful when you put it on. I was moved by the ideal silhouette and the calculated design that makes it so wearable.
If you look at the photos from that time, you can see the waist defined by a belt, but in fact, there are loops inside the back for a belt to pass through.
They are sturdy loops made of double-layered satin, matching the lining, so you can thread any belt you like through them.
I tried wearing it with my own belt. When you cinch it tight at the narrow part of your waist, it creates a cropped bomber silhouette with a rounded back. It was irresistibly cute. It would probably look great with a scarf passed through, too. It’s absolutely adorable from every angle—back, front, and side.
I’ve included a lot of photos because it’s just so incredibly cute at every stage—worn open, closed, or belted—so please take a look.
Between the tucks at the hem that give the back dimension, the slightly raglan sleeves, and the gussets at the sides, there’s no end to the details I could mention.
The pattern and technique used to create this ideal form while using such thick, heavy fur is nothing short of miraculous. And it’s completely stress-free to wear.
I could go on about this forever, but this is a breathtakingly rare piece of history.
If you consider current market values, this is an uncapped, killer piece that’s almost impossible to price. There are only a few in existence worldwide; I’ve seen items from the same series sell for 5,000€, and some are currently listed for over 3 million yen. Only Cardi B could afford that!
I happened to come across this one, it’s the New Year, and since a small shop like ours likely won’t be able to handle something of this caliber again, I’ve ignored the market rates. I’ve set a price that focuses purely on the value of the object itself—it’s an absolute steal! I wanted to make it just barely reachable even for those who might not have known the brand.
I’m certain that in the future, even if you wanted to see it or buy it, you wouldn't be able to!
