Surprisingly, this is my first time handling Aquascutum.
For some reason, I’ve never come across it, or when I did, it didn’t quite satisfy me enough to pick it up, but I managed to buy one piece during my recent buying trip to France.
It’s a British-made balmacaan coat from around the 70s or 80s.
The condition is incredible, and I really like this size—it’s unapologetically big and long.
When I put it on, the shoulders weren’t as bulky as I expected, which was a pleasant surprise.
As the name suggests, the waterproofing of this manufacturer is amazing. I was honestly shocked when I used a steam iron on it.
I just stared blankly as the water droplets sat on the fabric and rolled right off onto the floor. (laughs)
The "Aqua5" label inside seems to be that legendary fabric.
It’s a famous brand, so I’m sure many of you already know it, but after photographing it and wearing it, I’m reminded of what a great coat this really is.
I’ve shot two different styles this time by changing the inner layers.
A knit sweater works well underneath, or you could layer a jersey jacket for a sporty, almost hooligan-like look—it’s cool to wear it in that kind of rough, effortless way.
It’s classic and good; simply put, it’s cool.
Techwear is trendy right now, but I think it’s nice to wear something like this every once in a while.
I’d love to have fun mixing it with those kinds of pieces, too.
Highly recommended.
There are two pockets on the front and two on the inside.
The lining is nice enough that you could almost wear it inside out.
