vintage fat lava object or vase

A Fat Lava piece from Germany or Hungary.

"Fat Lava" refers to vintage German pottery vases,

supposedly meaning "fat" (thick) and "lava" (glaze)—thick glaze.

They are characterized by their lava-like glaze finish.

This piece is one such example, and it has a wonderful look. Please take a look at the photos.

Fat Lava generally refers to German vases, but based on my recent trip to Hungary

and conversations with various people, it seems that similar, or rather nearly identical, pieces

were also produced in Hungary during the same era, haha.

For items without any markings or stamps on the bottom, one could assume they are the work of anonymous artists.

It is said that pottery from this era was created by various artists in many different places, including West Germany, East Germany (VEB), the Czech Republic, and Hungary, so much of the detailed history remains unknown.
